Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do I add a notice?

Tap “+” at the top right of the board and choose “Scan” to open the camera. Point it at the notice; the edges are detected automatically and the image is straightened before import. To use a photo or screenshot you already have, choose “Choose from Photos”.

Q. What do I do on the review screen after importing?

Based on the recognized text, the App suggests a title and a due date; you choose the category yourself. Check them, fix anything that needs fixing, and tap “Save” to pin the notice to your board. The first time you save a notice with a due date, iOS asks for notification permission.

Q. The due date is missing or wrong

Due dates are suggested from dates found in the notice. They may be missing or wrong when text can't be read (handwriting, faded print, glare), when the notice uses recurring wording such as “the second Tuesday of every month”, or when it mixes a posting period with an event date. Use “Edit” on the detail screen to set the date and time directly.

Q. I'm not getting reminders

Please check the following:
1. iOS Settings → Notifications → Harigami: notifications are allowed.
2. In Harigami, Settings (gear icon): the “Day Before” and/or “Same Day” reminders are on.
3. Reminders aren't turned off for that particular notice (see “Edit” on the detail screen).
Note that a same-day reminder is not scheduled if its time has already passed the due time.

Q. How do I change the reminder times?

Tap the gear icon at the top right of the board and set the times under “Day Before” and “Same Day”. Changes are applied to reminders that are already scheduled, too.

Q. Is there a limit on how many notices get reminders?

Yes. To stay within iOS's notification budget, reminders are scheduled for up to 30 notices, nearest due date first. As notices expire, the next nearest ones are picked up automatically.

Q. Can it read vertically written Japanese?

Yes. Text recognition on iOS 18 and later supports vertical Japanese. Accuracy drops with handwriting, very small text, low resolution, or strong glare — shoot straight on, in good light, when you can.

Q. How do I send a notice to my family?

Tap “Share” on the detail screen. The notice is turned into a PDF that you can send through a messaging app, Mail, and so on.

Q. How do I export or back up my data?

Settings (gear icon) → Data → “Export All” writes every notice into a single zip file. It contains each notice's image (in an images folder) plus notices.json with the titles, recognized text, due dates, and other details.

Q. What happens to my data when I switch iPhones?

Your data lives only on your iPhone. It carries over to a new iPhone through iOS Quick Start or a restore from iCloud Backup. Open Harigami once after migrating (notification permission must be allowed for reminders to be re-registered). As a precaution, we recommend saving a zip with “Export All” before you switch.

Q. How do I delete a notice?

Use the delete button on the detail screen, or long-press a notice on the board and choose “Delete”. This also removes its image, recognized text, and scheduled reminders, and cannot be undone. Deleting the App removes all data permanently.

Q. Do I need permission from my building's management?

No. Harigami is designed for a single resident to use on their own; no onboarding or registration by a management company or owners' association is required. Your data stays on your own iPhone.

Q. Which devices are supported?

iPhone running iOS 18 or later.
